YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV)- 33 News Daybreak Reporter Katie Dugan sat down with Herb Washington, local McDonald’s owner, and special guest Ronald McDonald to talk about a fun new event coming to the Valley!

This was the kickoff of the first ever McD’s 5K Sock Run that will be held in downtown Youngstown.  The event is being held on Sunday, September 27 and will be an afternoon for the entire family.  The 5K run will begin at 3PM and prior to that, children can enjoy a FREE Kid’s race that will start the day at 2:30PM.  One of the fun parts of the 5K run is that individuals will receive a pair of Ronald McDonald red and white socks to wear, plus the first 300 participants to sign up get a McD’s Dri-Fit shirt.

According to Herb Washington, this run is not only going to be fun, but it will also help support the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mahoning Valley and Western Pennsylvania.  “In the past ten years we’ve given close to one million dollars here in the Valley to help individuals through Ronald McDonald Charities,” said Washington.  He hopes that this run will help kick off even more support annually to help the organization.

Early registration for the race is $20 and day of the race will be $25.
