Mooney loses big in opener

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The Cardinal Mooney Cardinals had their hands full with Maryland power Mount Saint Joseph to open their 2015 campaign, losing 53-12.

Mount Saint Joseph jumped out to an early 15 point lead after recovering a fumble and taking it back 14 yards for the score with 5:43 remaining in the first quarter.

Leading 18-0 in the second quarter, Mount Saint Joseph found the endzone twice on the ground increasing the lead to 32-0 with 3:26 remaining in the first half.

With :20 seconds remaining in the opening half, Mooney finally got into the endzone on a Devon McNutt one yard touchdown run making it 32-6.

In the third quarter, Mount Saint Joseph found the endzone again on a five yard run to increase their lead to 39-6.

A 22 yard touchdown pass from Patrick Pelini to Michael Williams with 1:40 remaining in the third quarter made it 39-12.

With :12 seconds remaining in the quarter, Mount Saint Joseph scored on a 63 yard touchdown pass to make the lead 46-12.

Mooney will travel to Boardman in week two.
