Contract vote at Kmart Distribution Center goes down

WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – The majority of workers who voted Sunday on a contract proposal at the Kmart Distribution Center in Warren rejected the deal.

According to the Tribune Chronicle, 150 of the 180 workers at the Perkins-Jones Road facility rejected the contract proposal.

The current contract expires Tuesday. UAW Local 1112 president Glen Johnson said both sides plan to sit down again to negotiate.

Earlier this month, Kmart officials announced they were closing the store on Parkman Road but then issued a statement saying they had a change of plan and the store would remain open.

Sears Holdings Director of Corporate Communications Howard Riefs said in a media release that they worked with the lease holder at the plaza and would stay open. There are 68 people who work at the store.
