How to beat the heat at the Canfield Fair

CANFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – The dog days of summer have extended into September. At least it’s not raining at the Canfield Fair, but there may be precautions you want to take to deal with the heat.

“Some tips would be to wear light-colored clothing,” says Alan Scannell with the American Red Cross. “Make sure you wear light-colored clothing. Make sure you wear sensible shoes, of course. But dress for the weather. Something on your head, keep the sun off your head, maybe use some of that sunscreen.”

There are plenty of spots on the fairgrounds for people to find shade from the sun, as well as places to pick up a bottle of water.

The Red Cross also wants you to keep an eye on your group for any signs of heat exhaustion. “Some of the things you may see, especially on a day like today, maybe the first thing you would notice would be some confusion,” says Scannell. “Just a little unsteady on your feet, feeling rung out.”

The fair hasn’t forgotten about the animals, either. There is a veterinarian on-site to make sure animals stay safe in the heat.
