Sharon football forfeits win over Struthers

SHARON, Pennsylvania (WYTV) – The high school football regular season resumes Friday night throughout the area.  Meanwhile, Sharon suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday.

Sports Team 33 has confirmed that the Tigers have been forced to forfeit Friday night’s win over Struthers for using an ineligible player.  That unnamed running back ran for only six yards during the game.

Head Coach Jim Wildman says that he turned in an eligibility list ten days before the first game, with no knowledge of any issues with any player. Wednesday afternoon, he was called to a meeting, and informed by school administration that Struthers received an anonymous call regarding the player in question.  As it turns out, that player was indeed ineligible…and the Tigers would forfeit the first game.

“During my 28 years, my integrity has never been questioned,” Wildman tells Sports Team 33.  “If a player is ineligible, then he doesn’t play.  It is unfortunate to find out 48 hours before an important league game…that he doesn’t get to play, and that we suffered a loss.  This is minor in terms of a rock that is in the road.  We will overcome this too, he said.”

Sharon hosts Hickory Friday night in the Game of the Week.  Pregame coverage begins Friday at 9:30 PM on MyYTV.
