CAMPBELL, Ohio (WYTV) – Campbell Police had extra officers at the city’s high school Friday morning, after parents expressed concern about an Atlanta man’s racist YouTube video.
According to Campbell Police Chief Drew Rauzan, several parents of students at Campbell Memorial High School contacted him expressing concern over a video being shared on social media in which a man declared “open season on killing white people and cops.”
Rauzan said he directed officers to converge at the school Friday morning in the chance that someone decided to act based on the video. Rauzan said that no threats, regardless of how insane they seem, should be disregarded.
Campbell Schools Superintendent Matthew Bowen released a statement that said, in part:
The Campbell City School District is a melting pot where students of all races come together and treat each other with dignity and respect. Students are all held to high standards. In this day and age, it is sad that society is still discussing civil rights.
Campbell is an awesome place for students to learn. Our children accept one another and truly care for their peers. Children are not treated differently based on the amount of pigment in their skin. Rather, they are treated as young adolescents with bright, promising futures.
