YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – After a loss to the defending state champion Benedictine last week, the Ursuline Irish hoped to get back on track in week three. But, the Akron Hoban Knights’ defense was too much to handle
Grant Kersh kicked a 37 yard field goal to give Hoban a 3-0 lead over Ursuline with 9:23 to play in the 1st Quarter.
Then, Arison Sanders knocked the ball loose from the Irish QB and Tyler Canova took it 41 yards to the end zone to extend the lead to 10-0.
The lead stretched to 17-0 when Todd Sibley scored from 5 yards out in the second quarter.
Hoban took a 20-0 lead into the locker room after Kersh’s second field goal of the night. This time from 22 yards out with just 10 seconds remaining.
Hoban would continue the scoring attack with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter, when a Jonah Morris sack led to a Marc Westover fumble recovery and return for a touchdown. This would give the Knights a 27-0 lead that eventually would hold as the final.
Ursuline (1-2) will visit Lake Catholic in week four.
