Accidental shooting takes the life of a Pennsylvania police chief

BESSEMER, Pa. (WYTV) — The Bessermer Borough police chief is dead after a gun unexpectedly went off at his house while he was cleaning it.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, Thomas Edward Macri, 56, accidentally shot himself in the chest while cleaning a .40 caliber pistol Sunday at his Shenango Township home.

Macri is a retired New Castle Police Officer — and has been serving as the chief in Bessemer since he retired.

State Police say there is no sign of foul play.
