Congressman Ryan weighs in on Planned Parenthood funding

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The battle on Capitol Hill over the funding of Planned Parenthood continues as a federal judge set a Thursday hearing over Arkansas’ decision to cut off Medicaid funding to the agency.

Thirty one Republicans in Congress signed a pledge to oppose any government funding bill that includes money for the agency.

Congressman Bill Johnson did not sign the pledge. Tuesday, Congressman Tim Ryan said the issue should not be a political one.

“You have these women who can get cancer screenings, cervical screenings and all the rest that prevent them from getting cancer, or they can get birth control pills so they can control the size of the their family. Then you have it get politicized like this. I think it is not good,” Ryan said.

A partial government shutdown could happen October 1 if lawmakers don’t approve a funding bill.
