Campbell mayoral candidate turns self in on assault charges

CAMPBELL, Ohio (WYTV) – A candidate for Campbell mayor turned himself in to authorities Tuesday on charges of felonious assault.

Nick Phillips was wanted in connection to an August altercation at his Sycamore Drive home where the victim, who is the former boyfriend of Phillips’ stepdaughter, claims Phillips punched him so hard it broke his jaw.

Phillips said his daughter’s boyfriend was arguing with Phillips’ wife when he intervened and punched him.

A visiting prosecutor from Youngstown will handle the case, since Campbell’s legal officials have excused themselves.

Phillips is running in the November election.
