BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – Giving local seniors and their family members peace of mind is what is behind a new program in Boardman Township
A free call system launched Wednesday. Senior residents who enroll in Care Call will receive an automated check-in phone call. If assistance is not needed, the resident can enter a code to end the call.
Boardman Police Chief Jack Nichols said his department receives several calls to check the welfare of a senior citizen and often they find an elderly person who has fallen and can’t reach the phone.
“Sometimes they lay there for days. Throughout the entire community, this has been a growing problem for a number of years,” Nichols said.
If no one answers the automated call, attempts are made to reach a family contact and if that is unsuccessful, police are dispatched to the home.
Residents can register for the program through a link on the Boardman Police Department’s website.
