McDONALD, Ohio (WYTV) – Jockeying for playoff position within Division VI Region 19, the Western Reserve Blue Devils and McDonald Blue Devils met in the Game of the Week, but it was Reserve that escaped with the 34-27 win.

With 9:34 remaining in the first quarter, Wyatt Larimer took the ball nine yards for the first score of the game to give Western Reserve the early 6-0 lead.
On the first play of the second quarter, Jeep DiCioccio pulled down a 65 yard touchdown pass to increase the Reserve lead to 12-0.
McDonald would answer with 11:42 remaining in the first half on Jake Reckard’s seven yard touchdown run, his eighth score of the season, pulling McDonald within a score, 12-7.
With 4:28 remaining in the first half, Larimer connected with Tyler Higgins on a 24 yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 19-7 at the half.
With 4:12 remaining in the third quarter, Reserve added to their lead on a Larimer 47 yard touchdown run, increasing the lead to 26-7.
But McDonald continued to fight. With :28 seconds remaining in the third quarter Ben Carkido scored from two yards out to make it 26-13.
McDonald refused to go away. On their next possession, using only :43 seconds off the clock, Reckard hauled in a 19 yard touchdown pass to bring the game back within one score, 26-20.
With 5:36 remaining in the game, Reserve’s Jack Cappabianca took the ball in from three yards out to give Reserve a little breathing room, 34-20.
Then on Reserve’s next drive, McDonald’s defense forced and recovered a fumble on the Reserve 33 yard line. With 3:54 remaining in the game, Dylan Portolese pulled down a 13 yard touchdown pass to shrink the lead to 34-27.
McDonald could not mount another scoring drive, falling by seven.
Western Reserve (5-2), who entered the game placed ninth in Division VI Region 19, will travel to Jackson-Milton next week.
McDonald (4-3), who entered the game placed seventh in Division VI Region 19, will hit the road to take on Mineral Ridge in week eight.
