YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The sunshine and blue skies Saturday made it a perfect day to spruce up parts of Youngstown.
Volunteers were out putting in a new green space on the south side of Youngstown where a vacant lot stood at South Avenue and Cameron Avenue.
The project is being funded by Waste Management and the group Keep America Beautiful.
Jennifer Jones with Green Youngstown said the targeted area of South Avenue is the first thing many people see as they drive in to Youngstown.
“We want people to move in. We want businesses to move in and by making the area look nice and look beautiful again, then hopefully it improves the first impression that people see when they come to town,” Jones said.
Work on the vacant lot does not end Saturday. The city is also planning to put in a half-size basketball court next to the green space. It will be ready for players next spring.
