Trumbull and Mahoning counties purchase new road tool

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Engineers in both Trumbull and Mahoning counties have a new tool to attack roads that have been cracked and damaged by the elements.

Tuesday was the first day that crews were able to use a new road grinder in Mahoning County. They spent the day training with it on portions of Schenley Avenue on Youngstown’s west side.

The two counties are splitting the $300,000 cost over the next several years.

Engineer Pat Ginnetti said it will allow local workers to do more than simply fill potholes with patching material.

“It’s going to enable us to come and do some necessary repairs on streets that are damaged,” he said. “It’s not going to fix everything, but its a step in the right direction, and it’s a good purchase for both counties.”

Ginnetti said his workers will spend time this month training on the new machine, expecting it will see a lot of use in both counties next spring.
