Boardman, OH (WYTV) – The Boardman football team has experienced a resurgence this season, and it’s players like Alex Duda that have made the difference. The Spartans senior is a captain and two-way starter at fullback and outside linebacker. He also ranks atop his class academically, making him a perfect fit for our Student Athlete of the Week.
“When I step on the field I kind of flip a switch,” said Duda. “Obviously I can be like a violent, excited, passionate person. Outside of the game I kind of like to just hang low, see what other people like say about me. I’m not going to go out and brag about how great I am. I’ll let my play do that.”
Alex has always let his play do the talking at Boardman, and it’s all paying off. The Spartans have won five games this season and are most likely playoff bound in Division 2, and it all starts with their senior leadership.
“I think they’re about five or six of us that have started since our sophomore year and we’ve progressed so much”he said. “We’ve become better people, and it will definitely help us in life, not just in the game of football.”
Alex has turned into a well-rounded Student Athlete. He’s also a three year letterwinner for the basketball team and ranks Number 1 in his class with a 4.0 GPA.
“Grades come first and then you gotta put a lot of extra time after practice, and like being tired after practice, working hard…it gets tough some days but it makes you a better person.”
Alex plans to use that work ethic in college and study Engineering, but for now he plans on enjoying the rest of his time at Boardman.
“I’m going to miss it a lot, I had a lot of great memories here,” said Duda. “I’d say, start on a good page, don’t wait and just stick through whatever you want to pursue, through the thick and the thin. Just because things go wrong, it’s not the end of the world, just keep going.”
