Student Athlete: Madelyn Kimpel

The South Range senior is an All Conference performer in Cross Country and Track, while leading her class with a 4.0 GPA.

Canfield, OH (WYTV) – Long distance running is not easy, South Range senior Madelyn Kimpel can tell you that. But that perseverance has turned her into an All Conference performer in both Cross Country and Track. Plus, she’s a standout in the classroom and community…making her a perfect fit for our Student Athlete of the Week.

“[Running] just gives you such a good feeling….[we’re] a different breed of people, you have to be kind of crazy,” said Kimpel.

Madelyn¬†has always loved running, and over the past four years, she’s qualified for Regionals every season in both track and cross country.

“It’s a great way to connect because there will be days that you feel really bad and there will be days that you feel really good, but it’s focusing on enjoying both the bad and the good I think.”

If you don’t catch Madelyn running, she’s probably studying…as she ranks number one in her class with a 4.0 GPA.

“You have to be dedicated,” she said. “It’s kind of hard and there’s a point in time where I put a lot of pressure on myself to do everything. Church and God has always been a big part of my life and so I find that doing things to the best of my abiltiy because God has blessed me with these talents is really what drives me.”

Madelyn is an active member of her church in Columbiana with Youth Group, Sunday School, and the Worship Band, and she also went on a mission trip to Guatemala last August.

“I’m definitely a people person,” said Madelyn. “I’m very empathetic, sometimes to the point where it wears on me but I really love to help people.”

Madelyn plans to do just that…as a high school teacher and coach one day and give back to the people and places that she loves.

“Definitely wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for the coaches here and the team here and the environment that the school provides…I love it.”
