Pa. nurse charged with taking pain meds from patients

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WYTV) – A Lawrence County nurse was charged with fraud after prosecutors say she took pain medication from patients.

According to Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane, Amber Ann Loutzenhiser, 27, of Lawrence County, is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and violation of a controlled substance.

According to a criminal complaint, Loutzenhiser, a registered nurse at Jameson Hospital, recorded on multiple patient charts that she administered Dilaudid, a pain reliever. The investigation revealed that Loutzenhiser allegedly used the medication for her own use and created fraudulent records to bill patients’ insurance companies.

Loutzenhiser is scheduled to appear Jan. 14 for a preliminary hearing.
