Sharon man and Farrell woman charged with insurance fraud

John Leali and Leaha Taylor

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WYTV) — A Sharon man and Farrell woman have been charged as part of an insurance fraud investigation by the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

John Leali, 52, is charged with two counts of insurance fraud and one count of theft by deception. Leaha Taylor, 42, is facing three counts of insurance fraud and one count of theft by deception.

Investigators say Leali and Taylor were involved in a scheme in March to submit an automobile claim with SafeAuto Insurance for damage that actually occurred in January when the vehicle was insured by another company. The other company, Geico, denied the initial claim because of a lack of coverage, according to a news release from the Attorney General’s Office.

Taylor later called Safe Auto Insurance to obtain a new policy, and Leali filed a claim six days after the coverage went into effect, claiming the accident occurred March 9, according to investigators.

Leali and Taylor are both awaiting preliminary hearings on the charges.

The investigation was led by the Attorney General’s Insurance Fraud Section — the largest law enforcement entity in the state with authority to investigate and prosecute such crimes.

The Attorney General’s Office says allegations of insurance fraud can be reported by using an online form or by calling the IFPA’s hotline at 1-888-565-IFPA (4372).
