Fill-A-Cruiser in Liberty collects food for Second Harvest

LIBERTY, Ohio (WYTV) – The Liberty Police Department was out in full force on Saturday, hosting their 4th annual Fill-A-Cruiser food drive at the Giant Eagle in Liberty.

Last year they collected over 1,300 pounds of food, providing 1,135 meals.

The event has gained so much support that officers now use a van instead of a cruiser.

People donate non-perishable food items and money to support those in need.

“We’ll gather the money up, write a check, and…take all the food to Second Harvest Food Bank Monday morning first thing,” said Michael Janovick of Liberty Township Police Department.

Second Harvest provides food to those in need in the tri-county area through 148 programs provided by hunger relief organizations, including church pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, shelters for battered women, and after-school programs.
