Brush fire burns 5 acres in Champion Twp.

CHAMPION TWP, Ohio (WYTV) – A brush fire in Champion Township took firefighters several hours to get under control on Saturday.

The fire started in a field and quickly spread at least five acres.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 2:00 p.m. It took about a dozen fire departments to control it, which happened just after 4:30.

Firefighters did face some challenges.

“A lot of tree tops laying around were actually on fire. It’s a swampy area back there, so we had to navigate around the swamps and the river,” Lt. John Jones said.

Firefighters say the wind played a role in the fire spreading so far.

No one was injured.
