Students enjoy Youngstown Phantoms game, learn about health

WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – More than 5,000 students got away from the classroom for a day at the hockey game. Despite missing school, those students still learned a lesson in good habits.

They took a trip to the Covelli Centre to see the Youngstown Phantoms take on the Muskegon Lumberjacks as part of the team’s Hockey for Health school day game. Phantoms staff members say they were happy for the change of pace — to have a night-time atmosphere in the middle of the day.

Katie Seminara, director of game day operations for the Youngstown Phantoms, said the time didn’t keep the crowds away.

“We’re extremely exited! This is a sell-out crowd for us,’ she said. “It’s just great to have this kind of energy, for not only our players, or staff, but just Covelli in general. It’s fun to hear it this loud and exciting.”

The Phantoms Hockey for Health program encourages families to focus on health, nutrition and exercise, as well as being volunteers and good citizens in their communities.
