McDonald, OH (WYTV) – Sara Joseph is not your average Student Athlete. First and foremost, she’s a competitor, and has turned into an All Conference and All State performer in both basketball and track. Plus, she tops the charts in the classroom, making her a perfect fit for our Student Athlete of the Week.
“I don’t like losing and when we’re on the losing end of things, I just don’t like it,” said Joseph. “I want the crowd to be on our side, mostly because of my sister, and how successful she was and like I said how I want to reach that point.”
Sara has always looked up to her older sister Katie, who was Student Athlete of the Week back in 2011. But Sara has paved her own way at McDonald as a four year starter on the basketball team, and closing in on 1,000 points for her career.
“It’s been one of my biggest goals playing basketball and having my teammates here to help me accomplish that would mean the world to me.”
Sara is also a standout on the track team, qualifying for the State Meet the past three years, and competing on the Girls State Championship her sophomore season.
“It was great, being on top of the podium was probably the best experience of my life so far,” she said. “Just to come out on top, because our coaches what we were capable of and we proved it.”
Sara has also proved herself in the classroom. She ranks first in her class with a 4.0 GPA, is a member of National Honors Society, and and a 2 time Academic All Ohioan.
“I mean it’s a lot of work. I go to school then I come to practice, then I go home, finish up whatever homework I have and basically do it all over again the next day…to be able to balance both I think is a really good accomplishment.”
