BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – Students at Stadium Drive Elementary School in Boardman are getting a say in what they eat for lunch for every day and even had the chance to taste test their selections.
It all started when two students started a petition demanding better food. Food Service Supervisor Natalie Winkle took their complaints seriously, and now the students have a chance to build a menu that makes everybody happy.
On Tuesday, the students got to taste new food, but but they were not told what it was.
“This time, I didn’t think they would like the teriyaki dippers. They like it,” Winkle said. “It’s shocking to me sometimes. I think they are not going to like it, and they do.”
The kids tasted several items.
And while their petition said sweet potatoes weren’t good, the sweet potato nuggets sprinkled with cinnamon were their favorite. They even got to name the new potatoes, calling them Tuscan taters.
Also getting a thumbs up was hummus with black beans for dipping carrots.
