CANFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – Twenty-five high school teams from across Northeast Ohio took part in Saturday’s Mahoning Valley VEX Qualifier Competition at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center.
The students design, build and program the robots themselves, then face-off in a game to score the most points.
Local teams from Poland, Lowellville, Chaney and MCCTC were in the competition.
“So they’ll learn the team-building skills. They’ll also learn the troubleshooting skills. What worked on my robot? What didn’t? What do I need to tweak and do? And rebuild. The next time they come out, they may have a completely different robot,” said MCCTC instructor Walter Baber.
A team from MCCTC and Firestone High in Akron were the winners. They advance to the state competition in March.
