WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – Dozens of children in Warren will get bikes for Christmas, thanks to a teenager with a big heart, who repaired and donated them to the Salvation Army.
Elliott Heckman, 16, spent two months fixing up 39 old bikes, cleaning them and replacing wheels and chains. On Saturday, they were all dropped off for families in need to pick up.
Heckman says his grandpa taught him how to fix bikes.
“He taught me how to tighten the chain and after that, I kind of just tore my bike apart and remembered where the parts went.”
Heckman plans to continue with this donation by making it an annual giveaway. He says there are plans to have another in May.
