EASTER LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WYTV) — Officials with the East Liverpool Fire Department confirmed a Styrene leak on the Ohio River between East Liverpool and Chester, WV.
The leak was reported about 10 a.m. Friday. It was originally caught in a containment area but made its way into the Ohio River.
Hazmat, EPA officials and the Coast Guard are on the scene according to the East Liverpool assistant fire chief.
Styrene is a chemical primarily used in the production of styrofoam.
The spill is contained, but it hasn’t been determined how much of the chemical leaked into the river.
