YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The McGuffey Historical Society reminisced about Youngstown, thriving in the steel industry, on Saturday.
Around 40 people packed into Kravitz Deli in Liberty Township to hear Rick Rowlands, founder of the Youngstown Steel Heritage Museum.
Rowlands discussed how steel shaped Youngstown into a city, and showed pictures of what remains of the steel equipment.
He explained how nearly everyone in the Valley has a connection to the industry.
“I want to make sure that we preserve some of the equipment that was used so that when people come and see this, they can get an idea of the sense and the scale of steel making, and have a physical manifestation of the jobs their relatives once did,” Rowlands said.
The presentation was free to the public.
