Major waterline break in Boardman business district

Aqua Ohio customers without water service or with low pressure in the area near the break are advised not to drink the water

BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio (WYTV) – Service is back to normal for Aqua Ohio customers in a Boardman neighborhood after a huge water line ruptured Monday morning.

Workers then discovered a 12-inch line broke on South Avenue near Tiffany Boulevard, across the street from Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center and near Clear Channel Radio. A company spokesman said the rupture was likely due to the single-digit, frigid temperatures.

“Our crews were able to respond pretty quickly and isolate the pipe rupture by closing valves on either side of the break, which was able to restore pressure and service to the majority of customers in the area,” said Aqua Ohio spokesman Jeff La Rue.

About a dozen customers were affected, but a number of businesses were able to remain open while the repairs were made.

In the meantime, experts are warning homeowners to take steps to ensure their pipes don’t freeze or break with these cold-weather tips.
