BELOIT, Ohio (WYTV) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues investigating a deadly weekend accident in western Mahoning County.
According to a recent release from the Canfield post of the patrol, a male passenger was ejected from a van that crashed on 5th Street at Stanley Ave. in the village of Beloit early Saturday morning. The name of the victim had not been released.
The state patrol says the vehicle was eluding a traffic stop in Sebring where a local police officer observed the driver running a red light on Ohio Ave. The van fled at a high rate of speed until it went out of control on a curve in Beloit where it hit a tree and a house.
The driver is identified as Bryan Whitehurst 41, of Alliance. He was taken to Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown for treatment of serious injuries. There’s no new information on his condition.
Both men were wearing seat belts. No one in the house was injured.
The accident happened at around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday. The patrol says excessive speed and alcohol are factors in the crash which remains under investigation.
