YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Officials filed charges against former boxing champion Kelly Pavlik Tuesday in connection with an August incident, in which they say he shot a man with a pellet gun in Canfield Township in August.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Canfield Municipal Court, Pavlik is charged with assault.
Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene said an allegation was made against Pavlik on October 14. A report was taken at the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department from a Boardman man who said Pavlik shot him with a 22-caliber pellet gun outside of his Canfield Township home in August.
“It’s a pretty high velocity round. It’s not a rifle round or a rifle per se,” Greene said.
According to the report, Pavlik, the alleged victim and several others had been drinking when the retired boxer pointed the gun at him. The victim said Pavlik missed him with his first shot. He said Pavlik fired again when his hands were raised, this time hitting him in the arm.
