NILES, Ohio (WYTV) – Police raided the home of former Niles mayor Ralph Infante Monday afternoon.

The Ohio State Auditor’s Office, assisted by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the FBI, conducted the search at the home on North Rhodes Avenue in Niles.

Several boxes of evidence, which appeared to be full of paperwork, were taken out of the home.

Police also served a search warrant at a business at 1762 North State St. in Girard, which, according to the Tribune Chronicle, Infante operates.

Ohio Attorney General’s Office Spokeswoman Jill Del Greco declined to confirm why police are raiding the two locations, other than to say that they are in connection with an ongoing investigation.

The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, Niles Police Department, and FBI are also involved with the investigation, and WYTV has received word that the IRS is involved in the investigation.

Infante lost November’s general election to now-Mayor Thomas Scarnecchia.

Infante was at the home earlier, but he left without comment.
