Frederick Uberti, founder of Farrell hospital, dies Saturday

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (WYTV) – One of the founders of the Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital in Farrell (now Horizon Hospital UPMC) died Saturday at the age of 76.

Fredrick Uberti, of New Wilmington, passed away at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh after complications following surgery.

Uberti started practice in 1969 and opened the first Cardiac Care Unit in the Valley, which is now named after him. According to Fredrick’s son, Edward, Fredrick Uberti was selected as one of the outstanding physicians in the Pittsburgh region by Pittsburgh Magazine and received many awards for teaching and mentoring medical students and residents in the area. He was also named Outstanding Physician by UPMC Horizon Hospital in Sharon in 2011.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 1090 E. State St. in Sharon. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Sharon.
