Maple syrup flows early this year in Salem

SALEM, Ohio (WYTV) – Misty Maple’s Sugar House in Salem is expecting a larger production of maple syrup this season.

Owner David Hively says he is hoping for 1000 gallons of the syrup by the end of the season. Last year, he estimates his business did 700 gallons. Two years ago, it was 1400 gallons.

Hively said weather plays a big role in production. The harvest season usually starts in February when the weather starts breaking, but he knows a few harvesters who began in January this year.
