YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Youngstown City Council heard four department’s budget requests on Monday night.
The Civil Services, Finance, Law and Health departments all presented the budget requests for 2016. Three of the four departments are asking for an increase in their budgets.
The city’s Civil Services Department requested an additional $40,000 in funding this year. The department says almost $19,000 of that is for advertising and visiting job fairs to seek out minority and female candidates.
The city’s Finance Department is asking for an increase of nearly $30,000 to cover wages and medical insurance for its employees. The Computer Division under the Finance Department is projecting to save more than $60,000 in 2016, which it attributes to savings in the division’s wages and benefits.
The Law Department has requested a $3,000 budget increase. As part of its budget is $30,000 put aside for new carpet in the office.
The Health Department was the only department on Monday projecting a savings in 2016. The department will try to save $21,000, most of which is in wages and services. All of the divisions in the Health Department are decreasing their budgets.
Next week, City Council will have another meeting to discuss more budget requests.
