WYSU and YSU Foundation move into YSU’s Melnick Hall

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Youngstown State University administrators are showing off the recently renovated Melnick Hall on campus, which will now house both the YSU Foundation and WYSU-FM — the Valley’s public broadcasting radio station.

Melnick Hall is located on Wick Avenue near the university’s Alumni House. It once housed the Rose Melnick Medical Museum for the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services, and before that, it was the old ITT Technical Institute.

WYSU has been housed in the basement of Cushwa Hall for 40 years, and the YSU Foundation was located across the street, at the Alumni House.

According to the university, WYSU went on the air in 1969 with studios in the former Valley Park Motel on Wick Avenue. In 1976, the station moved into Cushwa Hall.

The YSU Foundation has more than $225 million in assets, and its endowment is the largest of any of the public universities in northeast Ohio, providing more than $7 million in scholarships for YSU students every year, according to YSU.
