BROOKFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – A man was arrested Thursday morning at Brookfield Middle School after showing up there intoxicated and covered in mud, according to police.

Police were called to the school at about 7:30 a.m. after they say Ryan Latimer, 19, showed up on school property saying he “just wanted to talk.”

Police said Latimer was very intoxicated and that his speech was slow. A search of Latimer’s pockets uncovered a six-inch knife. Police noted that the knife was in a homemade case.

Latimer was put under arrest and handcuffed. As the officer was escorting Latimer to his patrol car, Latimer worked his hands out of the handcuffs and became disruptive and loud, according to police. Officers were able to subdue the suspect and transported him to the Trumbull County Jail.

Latimer was charged with criminal trespass, carrying a concealed weapon and underage drinking.

Superintendent Tim Saxton said in a news release Friday that safety procedures were followed during the incident:

He entered school property while the students were arriving in the morning, but our principals handled the matter efficiently and contained the man while police officials arrived to the scene,” said Superintendent, Tim Saxton. “All the proper safety procedures were taken during the situation and charges have been filed.”
