AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – An Austintown man was arrested early Monday morning after a woman told police the man threatened to throw her off a bridge at Mill Creek Park.
Police were called about 4:20 a.m. to the Compass West apartments after a woman there told 911 that the father of her child, Devonte Housely, 23, took her unwillingly out of the apartment they shared and forced her into a car.
The woman said Housely drove her around Youngstown and argued with her about something he found on her cell phone. Housley then took the woman to Mill Creek Park where he said he was going to throw her off a bridge because he knew she couldn’t swim.
According to a police report, Housely stopped the vehicle near the Pioneer Pavilion and walked around to the passenger side of the car. The victim told police she locked the car, slid over into the driver’s seat and took off.
The woman said she went home and called police. Officers met the woman at the apartment and noted she was not wearing shoes and her socks were soaked with water.
Another officer spotted Housely walking along Burkey Road, where he was arrested. Police also noted in the report that they found the victim’s phone in Housely’s pocket.
Housely was charged with kidnapping and domestic violence. He was arraigned Monday afternoon in Austintown District Court where bond was set at $85,000. He is being held in the Mahoning County Jail. Housely is due back in court March 9.
