LISBON, Ohio (WYTV) – Look for a greater police presence soon in Lisbon.
The Morning Journal reports that Village Police Chief Mike Abraham has been given verbal approval by sufficient members of council to proceed with plans to add a full-time police officer. Four council members gave their approval Monday night.
The full-timer will replace two part-time officers who recently quit, costing only an additional $7,000 a year, according to Abraham.
The chief says he spends a great deal of time training part-time officers who then leave to take a better-paying full-time position in another department.
The police department has five full-time officers and the chief, plus eight part-time officers who work mostly the weekend shifts and fill in when other officers are off sick or on vacation.
