Mahoning Valley Pizza Cookoff benefits children with autism

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) The Mahoning Valley Pizza Cookoff is this weekend.

Pizzerias from all over the valley will join together to help raise money for Youngstown’s Potential Development Program. Their mission is to provide children with autism and special needs a safe, structured educational environment with caring, supportive services, according to their website.

The event is March 6 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman Township.

Piemakers will also receive awards at the event. 12 pizzerias will be participating, where judges will blind taste different pizzas and score them.

There will be a silent auction, with many prizes as well.

It’s all going to help out Potential Development, according to Executive Director Paul Garchar. “We are an inner city Youngstown program,” says Garchar. “We serve a very large number of low-income, inner city families and we absolutely turn nobody away for inability to pay.”

Proceeds from this year and last year are helping to build new classrooms and an elevator in the Market Street high school.
