AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A friendly and healthy competition took place Wednesday morning at Austintown High School.

It was called the ‘Frito Throw Down.’ Funded by a grant from the Team Nutrition and Buckeye Healthy Schools, Austintown principals teamed up with a culinary student from Choffin to make frito pies with different ingredients, Competing for the award winning recipe, to win the Frito trophy.

The goal is to get students to take part in healthy school lunches.

“We have different flavorings that they can use today, we have different options. They’re all doing the same recipe, but they are doing their own twist on it,” Austintown Food Service Director Tascin Brooks said. “So we are showing kids they can eat healthy but make it the way they like it.”

The recipe that wins will be on the school lunch menu next month.
