CANFIELD, Ohio (WYTV) – Canfield Local School District was ranked 16th in the state in the performance index rankings. The rankings are a measurement of how much a student knows in relation to how many students pass the state test.

Canfield earned a B on the report card, with only six districts in Northeast Ohio earning an A. The school district also was second in the ranking for spending the least amount of money per pupil.

Superintendent Alex Geordan said this was part of plan the district began implementing three years ago. They wanted to be in the top ten by 2017.

Geordan said a large reason for their growth comes from including more technology resources and aligning curriculums, but another major factor is the support from the community, students, and faculty.

Outstand community, committed, dedicated student body, motivated staff, all working together aligning curriculum. And then us as a central officer and board of education giving the staff what they need to have youngsters be successful,” Geordan said.

A celebration was held Thursday to honor the school’s accomplishments as well as a sendoff for the Canfield High School Speech and Debate Team. The group is heading to a state competition.
