DeMonaco & Hooker lifts New Castle by Meadville

EDINBORO, Pennsylvania (WYTV) – After beginning the season with a 21-0 record, New Castle fell in two of their previous four contests (to Allerdice & Highlands). However, tonight in the opening round of the State Tournament, the Hurricanes dominated Meadville enroute to an 82-61 victory.

The Hurricanes were led by Gino DeMonaco’s 27 points on 7 three-point baskets. Marquel Hooker finished with a stat line of 25 points, 9 rebounds, 8 steals and 5 assists for New Castle. Marcus Hooker added 15 points and 8 boards.

New Castle jumped out to a 22-9 lead after the first quarter. The Bulldogs committed nine turnovers in the opening eight minutes of play. The ‘Canes extended their lead to 43-28 at the half.

Meadville ends their season with a 21-5 mark.

The Red Hurricanes (24-2) will be pitted against the winner of Holy Ghost Prep and Archbishop Carroll in the second round of the 2016 PIAA Class AAA State tournament on Tuesday.
