Former assisted care worker pleads guilty to patient abuse

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A former assisted care facility worker pleaded guilty to two felony counts of patient abuse on Wednesday.

Richard Johnson was originally charged with gross sexual imposition in August of 2015 after investigators said he sexually assaulted one of the center’s elderly residents. Johnson worked in maintenance at the facility on Youngstown’s west side, where prosecutors said he inappropriately touched an 80-year-old woman who reportedly suffers from dementia.

The investigation was conducted by the Ohio Department of Health and the Attorney General’s office.

Sentencing is set for 11 a.m. April 21 before Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas Judge Lou D’Apolito.
