WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Warren man remains jailed Friday night after police said he assaulted a woman, who was seen lying in the roadway near McDonald’s on Parkman Road.
Police were called to the area after a witness reported that a man was beating a woman who was on the road. The witness said the man then shoved the woman back into the car.
Officers pulled over the reported vehicle on Summit Street. The driver, 31-year-old Thomas Urey, Jr., got out of the car and was argumentative with an officer, according to a Warren Police report.
Police said Urey smelled of alcohol, and he denied any wrongdoing, saying the female passenger jumped out of his vehicle.
Police said the woman, who was in the car, was covered in blood and had a swollen lump on the side of her face.
The woman told police that Urey wouldn’t let her out of the car, so she jumped. She said she didn’t remember if she was assaulted by Urey, according to the report.
The woman was taken to the hospital for her injuries. Police said a young child was in the backseat of the vehicle, and he went with the woman to the hospital.
Urey was charged with domestic violence, child endangering, OVI and driving under suspension. He refused to take a breathalyzer test at the time of his arrest.
