FARRELL, PA (WYTV)-The West Middlesex girl’s basketball team is heading to the second-round of the PIAA tournament after surviving a scare from underdog Chartiers-Houston 57-43.

The win is the Big Reds first PIAA tournament win in program history.

West Middlesex had to battle back time and time again as the Big Reds trailed heading into the 4th quarter before going on a 27-9 run in the final frame to secure the win.

The majority of that work came at the charity stripe as the Big Reds were 17-19 from the line in the quarter.

Gretchen Elsey led the team with 14 points while senior Delaney Dogan had 11.

With the win, West Middlesex moves to 25-1 overall and will play Our Lady of Sacred Heart on Tuesday.
