YWCA recognizes high school girls with bright futures

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – The YWCA hosted its 22nd annual Young Women with Bright Futures awards ceremony on Saturday, giving special recognition to thirty high school seniors.

The young women were selected by their schools for leadership qualities, academic excellence and creativity.

The girls and their families were invited to the Boardman Holiday Inn to enjoy brunch and listen to a motivational speaker. The event is a way to accomplish the YWCA’s mission.

“We like to empower women, we like to recognize their successes and encourage them to keep on doing the good work that they’re doing,” Varada Bhide said.

Allyson Crays from Warren Harding and Courtney Conklin from Lowellville both won $12,000 scholarships that are funded by the Thomases Endowment Fund of the Youngstown Area Jewish Foundation.
