Police: Intruder hit with bat after pulling knife on Warren man

Carl Binion

WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Warren man accused of coming to a Stephens Avenue with a knife was arrested on Thursday and taken to Trumbull County Jail on aggravated burglary and drug possession charges.

The alleged victim told police that 58-year-old Carl Binion walked through an opened front door, carrying a knife and yelling about “bad drugs” that he received from someone, according to a Warren police report. He said Binion then pointed the knife at his throat.

The man told officers that he ran to his bedroom to get a baseball bat, and he hit Binion in the head with it in self-defense. He said Binion then dropped the knife and left the home, leaving the knife and the sandals that he was wearing behind.

Police said the knife and the sandals were taken as evidence. Police also took a DNA sample from Binion, who had an injury to the front of his head.

Binion was treated for the injury at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

He admitted to police that he went to the home to confront the man, because he was upset, but he denied being inside the home or in possession of the knife.

Binion remained in Trumbull County Jail on Friday, according to jail records.
