Kasich talks job creation, Social Security in Hanoverton

HANOVERTON, Ohio (WYTV) – Ohio Governor John Kasich made a campaign stop in Hanoverton in Columbiana County on Sunday, speaking to a crowd of around 400.

His main talking point was job creation. He says the same formula he used as governor of Ohio will be applied to the nation within the first 100 days in the White House.

“I want to take the regulatory reform, the tax cuts, the balanced budgets, the saving of Social Security, the fixing of the border, respect again around the world for who we are as Americans.”

He also made a promise about social security at the town hall meeting.

“For you seniors, I want to tell you something, I’m President of the United States, this program will last forever.”

The presidential hopeful spoke for half an hour, and vowed that he will not attack his GOP rivals.

“I want you to know I will not take the low road to the highest office in the land, I will not,” he said.

For many Kasich supporters, that’s a selling point for their vote.

“I like him because he’s genuine. He’s not some canned politician that comes in with a memorized speech and repeats the same thing every time,” said Tom Viets of Lisbon.

“He’s got the best ideas, he’s the most presidential,” said Cynthia Moore of Louisville.

Youngstown State University President Jim Tressel joined the candidate on stage. This is the first time he’s taken part in a political campaign.

“I have never known a person running for president like I know this one. This one is special.” he said. “I really value the way he cares about every single person, doesn’t matter what your circumstances are.”

Kasich will have another rally in Youngstown on Monday morning at Brilex Industries. If you want to attend and had trouble registering online, it’s fine to just show up when the doors open at 9 a.m.
