Kennedy Catholic preps for State Final

Kennedy Catholic advances to State Semifinals

HERMITAGE, Pennsylvania (WYTV) – The countdown continues…as Kennedy Catholic’s quest for the seventh boys basketball state title in school history concludes tomorrow afternoon in Hershey.

After easily handling Sewickley Academy Tuesday night, the Golden Eagles now turn their attention to the Mighty Elephants from Math, Civics, and Sciences…a school out of Philadelphia.

Both teams enter the Class A State Final with plenty of momentum and experience.

M-C-and-S has gone 11-1 since January 15th, and has played in three state championship games since 2011.  Meanwhile, K-C is riding a 22-game win streak…and is seeking the program’s first state crown since 2001.

“Ya know, I tell our players don’t take things for granted,” Head Coach Rick Mancino said.  “You never know if you’re going to have this opportunity again. So, we told them to just soak it all in. And, it’s great. You an go through the rest of your life and not have people screaming and cheering for you, and you’re the center of attention. And I told them all, make sure they enjoy it. And, our guys are doing a good job of that.”

Freshman Maceo Austin can’t wait to take the floor in Hershey on Friday.

” Ever since I was little just shooting in the backyard, ya know, I was always taking the last shot in the state championship. And now, it’s just coming true,” said Austin.  “Math, Civics, and Sciences…they’re a really good team. We watched film on them yesterday. But, if we just stick together as a team, I don’t think anybody can beat us.”

Kennedy Catholic and the Mighty Elephants from Math, Civics, and Sciences will tipoff the Class A State Final tomorrow at 2PM at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
