YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Youngstown police officers responded to gunfire in the 400 block of Idora Avenue around 12:20 a.m. Sunday.
There, they reported finding a 23-year-old male victim dead at the scene. The victim was identified as Marquise Shelton, who lived on Idora Avenue.
Youngstown Police and the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office are investigating the shooting as a homicide. A report from the Coroner’s Office says Shelton died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the left lung.
Police said when officers arrived on scene, several people were standing on the porch screaming and waving their hands. Inside the house, a woman was holding the man who was shot to death. The woman also had a gunshot wound in the shoulder.
“The detectives are in the process of the investigation… They’re following up with some leads, and I’m sure they are going to work hard to solve this as soon as they can,” said Lt. Frank Rutherford. “You can let people know in that neighborhood we are going to have extra patrols over there.”
According to police, no arrests have been made, but they do have suspects. The shooting is believed to be related to an earlier argument.
